Michael Forestieri

Artist Bio

Michael Forestieri is a seasoned storyteller and storyeducator who has presented stories and storytelling workshops for schools, church groups, colleges, libraries and museums. He has performed for audiences of all ages from Maryland to Connecticut and overseas. Original and classic tales, Biblical parables, and culturally diverse folk tales from around the world comprise his ever-growing repertoire. Each storytelling performance is tailored to meet the needs and interests of his audience.

The building of community, character, and self-esteem are common themes in Forestieri's residency programs where he teaches students the art of storytelling. Specializing in identifying and nurturing creativity while fostering a safe environment, he guides participants as they explore their new-found talents. Forestieri offers hands-on and interactive programs to help increase writing and storytelling skills which meet the Delaware English Language Arts Content Standards.

Forestieri has toured all of the state's public libraries in conjunction with their Summer Reading Programs. He also works at a counseling center using narrative therapy to help troubled teens express themselves.

Description of Residency Activities

Residencies emphasize that everyone has a voice inside that needs to be heard! Storytelling is that excellent medium through which each participant's voice is developed and shared. Everyone is a storyteller. The oral tradition has been used to instruct and pass down heritage from one generation to the next in every culture for centuries. Storytelling has power to communicate, instruct, and persuade.
